Umrah Rules and Regulations

The rules and regulations for Umrah, the “mini pilgrimage” to Makkah, rules and regulations for performing Umrah depending upon the specific rules, Regulations, policies in Islam as well as by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It’s important to note that regulations, policies of Umrah may have been updating and changing, like in Islam it is not permissible for women to perform Umrah without “Mahram” but recently Saudi Arabia said that women can perform Umrah without Mahram. However, we can provide you with a general overview of the common rules and regulations that are typically followed.

1. Ihram Rules and Regulations:

 Ihram is a “state of purity” entered into by pilgrims before starting their Umrah journey. It is important for both men and women to be in the state of Ihram, for men its two pieces of white seamless cloth, while women are encouraged to dress modestly, Covering their entire body except face and hands and make the intention of Ihram. While in the state of Ihram there are certain rules that must be followed such as pilgrim should avoid cutting hair, trimming of nails, hunting, killing, avoid using scented products such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, fragrance, avoid any form of violations, arguments and  sexual relations.

2. Visa requirements

It is necessary for a pilgrim to obtain all the required documents for Umrah such as passport with validity of at least 6 months from the date of submission, Vaccination certificate and Umrah Visa for entering Saudi Arabia.

3. Children and elderly person rules and regulations

Children and elderly individuals may need to be accompanied by a guardian as well as they should consult with the healthcare authorities before starting the Umrah journey to ensure that they are fit for travel and can handle all the physical exertions and those with certain chronic diseases are mandatory to have the medical clearance before leaving for the journey.

4. Respect and Etiquettes:

Pilgrims must observe respectful behaviour and etiquette throughout the whole Umrah trip, including respecting the holy sites of Makkah and Madina, and respecting fellow pilgrims, local customs and traditions.
